Even though your enamel is the hardest component in your body, it can be damaged over time. Dental trauma, cavities, and an acidic environment can all erode or destroy enamel. More importantly, tooth decay reduces your ability to enjoy your favorite meals while also causing discomfort and sensitivity.
Following the Dental Crown and Bridges procedure at Dental Smile-Savers, your damaged teeth will appear and feel healthy and strong. If the damage is too severe for a conventional filling, Dr. Finlay may recommend dental crowns to restore the appearance and health of your teeth. Dental Smile-Savers offers beautiful porcelain crowns to rebuild your teeth without compromising their appearance.
Step 1: A consultation with Dr. Finlay and the team is the first step in establishing whether a dental crown is the right choice for you. We utilize digital imaging to establish whether your tooth's structure is strong enough to support a crown. To make sure your crown has a strong and healthy foundation, these scans may also be used to examine the tissues around it.
Step 2: Once your eligibility for a crown has been established, we will numb your gums and prepare the affected tooth for a crown by filing it down. The space occupied by your crown shouldn't vary from that of the original, whole tooth. This gives you a more realistic-looking smile by enabling your restoration to be flush with the rest of your teeth.
Step 3: After cleaning and shaping your tooth, we take impressions of it so that our lab technician may utilize them as a reference for building your custom crown. Since the fabrication of your crown takes a few days, you will be given a temporary crown to wear until your permanent restoration is ready.
Step 4: Once your crown arrives at our office, we will call you to schedule an installation appointment. When you arrive, we will remove your temporary crown, clean your teeth, and then place your new crown on your tooth. We will adjust your crown if necessary so that it fits comfortably and looks natural.
At our office, dental crowns made of ceramic, all-porcelain, or nonmetal are fitted. Instead of just fixing your teeth, our goal is to completely reconstruct your smile while keeping safety and aesthetics in mind.
